Planting & Care
Choose a location with full sun and excellent drainage. Amend heavy soils with sand or gravel to improve drainage. Dig a hole slightly larger than the root ball, place the plant at the same depth it was growing in its pot, and backfill with soil. Water thoroughly after planting and keep the soil moderately moist during the first growing season to help roots establish. Once established, lavender is drought tolerant and only needs occasional watering.
Prune lightly after flowering to maintain shape and encourage new growth. Avoid cutting into old wood. In colder zones, provide winter protection such as a layer of mulch around the base, but keep mulch away from the crown to prevent rot.
