3 Mockernut Hickory 12" Carya tomentosa Live Plants

Mockernut Hickory is a sturdy North American native tree valued for its tall, straight form and compound foliage that turns warm golden-yellow in autumn. Its name refers to the thick, hard shell of the nut, and the tree is a familiar sight in woodlands and spacious landscapes where it can grow into a long-lived specimen.

Beyond its ornamental shade-tree role, Mockernut Hickory produces sweet, edible nuts that are enjoyed by wildlife and can be gathered for culinary use when fully ripe. The wood is dense and prized, though this listing is for living plants. It grows at a moderate pace, develops a deep taproot, and prefers an open, sunny position with room to mature. Fall is an excellent time to plant these bare-root or potted starts, allowing roots to establish before winter.
