Philodendron ‘Red Medusa’ Hybrid

Philodendron ‘Red Medusa’ Hybrid combines deep burgundy petioles with glossy, heart-shaped foliage that emerges red before maturing to a rich emerald green. Compact yet dramatic, it adds tropical flair to desks, shelves, or hanging planters and forgives the occasional lapse—ideal for collectors who want color without the fuss.

Water
Let the top 1–2 in (2.5–5 cm) dry, then soak; never leave standing in runoff.
Light
Bright indirect; sheer east or west window keeps reds vivid without scorch.
Temp
Sweet spot 65–80 °F (18–27 °C); protect from drafts below 60 °F / 16 °C.
Soil
Chunky aroid blend: ½ potting soil, ¼ orchid bark, ¼ perlite for airflow.
Humidity
Thrives ≥ 50 %. Mist, pebble-tray, or humidifier for extra gloss.
Fertilizer
Half-strength balanced liquid monthly in spring–summer; pause in winter.
Toxic
Contains calcium oxalate; keep away from pets and kids.
Growth
Moderate—expect a fresh leaf every 4–6 weeks in good light.
Propagate
Root stem cuttings in water or sphagnum; pot when roots reach 2 in.
Prune
Snip yellow leaves at base; pinch tips to stay bushy.
Repot
Shift up one pot size every 1–2 yrs or when roots circle.
Pests
Spider mites & mealybugs—wipe, then treat with neem or insecticidal soap.
Issues
Yellow leaves = overwater. Brown edges = low humidity / too much sun.
