Goldenrod (Solidago altissima) is one of the most ecologically valuable native wildflowers in North America. Its golden plumes light up the late summer and fall garden while providing a critical nectar source for migrating monarchs, native bees, and dozens of other pollinators at a time when few other plants are blooming.

Despite its reputation, Goldenrod does not cause hay fever — that's ragweed. Goldenrod pollen is too heavy to be airborne. Wildlife tend not to browse. It's a carefree, drought-tolerant perennial that self-seeds happily once established and adapts to a wide range of soil conditions.
