Encarsia formosa/Eretmocerus eremicus

Controls:

Encarsia formosa and Eretmocerus eremicus are tiny parasitic wasps that are mainly parasitic to whiteflies. They can be easily released in the field for the control of whiteflies indoors or outdoors. Eretmocerus eremicus act as both an external and internal parasite whereas Encarsia formosa act as the only internal parasite. Best known for their ability to control Tobacco whitefly (Bemesia tabaci) along with Greenhouse whitefly (Trialeurodes vapariorum).

Application Rate Recommendations for Encarsia formosa/Eretmocerus eremicus:

  • Preventative: 1-2 per square foot weekly
  • Moderate Infestation: 2-4 per square foot weekly
  • Heavy Infestation: 4-8 per square foot weekly

How-To Use Encarsia formosa/Eretmocerus eremicus For Best Results:

  • Release these wasps as soon as you see whiteflies in your garden or greenhouse.
  • You should also release them in the evening when temperatures are cooler.
  • The wasps should be released at the base of plants where whiteflies are present.
  • It is important to note that these wasps are sensitive to pesticides so avoid using them when releasing these wasps
  • Store for a maximum of 2 days at 42-50 °F (6-10 °C).
