5 Seeds Witch Hazel Hamamelis virginiana Hardy Flowering Shrub

Witch hazel is a deciduous shrub or small tree valued for its unusual late-season bloom and dependable landscape structure. Hamamelis virginiana typically flowers in autumn, producing fragrant, spider-like yellow blooms on bare branches after most other plants have finished for the year, followed by attractive foliage that turns warm yellow in fall.

This shrub works well in woodland gardens, naturalized areas, mixed borders, and as a specimen plant where its seasonal interest can be appreciated up close. The blooms offer late forage for pollinators during mild spells, while the seed capsules and layered branching add winter texture. It prefers consistent moisture and tolerates partial shade, making it a useful understory choice for informal plantings.
