5 Seeds Monkshood Aconitum napellus Perennial Flower Garden Plant

Monkshood (Aconitum napellus) is a hardy perennial flowering plant prized for its tall, upright spikes of deep violet-blue blooms that add dramatic vertical interest to garden borders and woodland plantings. This classic cottage-garden favorite emerges each spring from sturdy tuberous roots, producing glossy, deeply divided foliage before flowering in midsummer through early autumn.

Ideal for the back of perennial borders, pollinator gardens, and partially shaded woodland areas, Monkshood offers reliable structure and long-lasting color across the growing season. Its nectar-rich blooms attract bees and other pollinators, while the tall flower spikes also work well as fresh cut flowers for arrangements. Plants prefer consistently moist, well-drained soil and benefit from a mulch layer to keep roots cool.
