5 Seeds Celastrus scandens American Bittersweet Vine Native Climbing Ornamental

Celastrus scandens, commonly known as American Bittersweet, is a vigorous deciduous climbing vine native to North America. It is prized for its attractive fall display, when its foliage turns yellow and its vines carry clusters of orange-yellow seed capsules that open to reveal bright red berries. This vine is a popular choice for arbors, trellises, fences, and naturalized areas, offering seasonal color and texture to the landscape.
American Bittersweet is primarily grown as an ornamental vine for its striking autumn fruit and its ability to provide vertical interest in the garden. It can be trained on sturdy structures or allowed to ramble through large trees and shrubs in informal plantings. The vine is dioecious, meaning individual plants are either male or female, and fruit is typically produced on female plants when a male is present nearby for pollination. It performs best in a sunny to partly shaded location with room to climb.
