30 Seeds Mountain Mahogany Cercocarpus montanus Shrub Seeds

Mountain Mahogany is a durable, cold-hardy native shrub known for its dense branching habit, small leathery leaves, and distinctive feathery seed plumes that add late-season texture to the landscape. It adapts well to dry, exposed sites and is often used in xeriscapes, native plant gardens, windbreaks, and wildlife-friendly plantings. Its compact form and tidy appearance make it a practical choice for borders, informal hedges, and naturalized areas.
This shrub is valued for its ornamental interest, soil-stabilizing root system, and ability to thrive in poor, well-drained soils with minimal supplemental water once established. The small blooms are understated, while the curled, silvery seed tails provide a unique visual feature in late summer and fall. It works well in rock gardens, drought-tolerant borders, restoration plantings, and low-maintenance landscapes where a rugged, long-lived woody plant is desired.
