Anemone multifida, commonly called cutleaf anemone or windflower, is a hardy herbaceous perennial native to western North America, valued for its finely divided foliage and cheerful early-season blooms. Plants form compact clumps of deeply cut, fern-like leaves topped in spring and early summer by cup-shaped flowers in shades of white, cream, yellow, red, or soft purple, each with a prominent central button of yellow stamens. It suits rock gardens, wildflower meadows, prairie plantings, and the front of perennial borders, and its early bloom period makes it a welcome resource for bees and other pollinating insects.
