Rhododendron catawbiense, commonly known as Catawba Rhododendron, is a handsome evergreen shrub prized for its large, showy clusters of lilac-purple blooms that appear in late spring. This hardy, densely branched plant adds rich structure and vibrant color to shaded borders, woodland gardens, and naturalized areas.
This ornamental shrub is easy to grow when given the right conditions, preferring acidic, well-drained soil and partial shade. Its broad evergreen leaves provide year-round interest, and mature plants can serve as an excellent privacy screen or foundation planting.
