It forms upright, branching stems with lance-shaped green foliage, topped in summer by snapdragon-like violet-blue blooms whose two-lipped shape is said to resemble a monkey's face. This heirloom selection is a favorite for rain gardens, pond margins, and other consistently damp spots where its long bloom season and pollinator activity add lively color and movement.

Use Allegheny monkeyflower along water features, in bog or rain gardens, and in naturally wet meadow plantings where its vivid blossoms draw bees and other pollinators through midsummer into early fall. Plants spread gradually by rhizomes to form relaxed clumps and pair well with other moisture-tolerant perennials such as lobelia and joe-pye weed. Start seed indoors on the surface of moist medium, as light aids germination, then transplant seedlings to their permanent wet site once danger of frost has passed.
Species: Mimulus ringens
Type: Herbaceous perennial
Plant_Habit: Upright clumping, spreads slowly by rhizomes
Sun: Full sun to part shade
Soil: Moist to wet, rich loam or clay
Days_to_Harvest: Not applicable
Zones: 3-8
Germination: 14-21 days at 65-75F, light required
Sowing: Surface sow, press into medium, keep consistently moist
Spacing: 12-18 inches
Notes: Native wetland perennial; blooms summer into early fall

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0717/4648/6408/files/il_fullxfull.7854630640_pwnz_a92becea-d140-4aae-81bb-ad7487c28bba.jpg?v=1791898725
https://www.natesgardensupply.com/products/5000-seeds-mimulus-ringens-allegheny-monkeyflower-heirloom-wetland-garden-flower
