Also known as celtuce or stem lettuce, it offers a dual harvest of leaves and peeled stems that can be sliced into stir-fries, pickles, or fresh salads, making it a rewarding and unusual addition to the home garden. It grows best in cool weather and can be succession-planted for a steady supply through spring and fall. The young leaves can be used like standard lettuce, while the mature stems develop a delicate nutty taste and remain crisp when cooked briefly. Because it is easy to grow and slow to bolt in mild temperatures, it suits both beginner and experienced gardeners looking for something different.

Species: Lactuca sativa var. angustana
Variety: New Yu Mai
Type: Annual vegetable
Plant_Habit: Upright rosette with tall thick stem
Sun: Full sun to partial shade
Soil: Well-drained, fertile, moisture-retentive loam
Days_to_Harvest: 60-90
Zones: 4-9
Germination: 7-14 days at 60-70F
Sowing: Start indoors or direct sow after last frost, sow 1/4 inch deep
Spacing: 8-12 inches apart in rows 12-18 inches apart
Notes: Harvest stems when 12-18 inches tall and still tender

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0717/4648/6408/files/il_fullxfull.7825072477_sude_3a93da0b-a1e7-4904-b75e-9e79bd096ac7.jpg?v=1791898675
https://www.natesgardensupply.com/products/500-asparagus-lettuce-new-yu-mai-seeds-stem-lettuce-celtuce-chinese-lettuce-cool-season-vegetable-garden-seeds
