It produces fragrant pale pink to white flowers in late spring and summer, followed by bright red rose hips in autumn that add seasonal interest to hedgerows and wildlife-friendly gardens.
This rose works well in mixed borders, native plantings, hedgerows, and naturalized areas where its scrambling habit can be allowed to spread. The hips are traditionally used for culinary purposes such as jams, syrups, and teas, while the flowers support pollinating insects. It is a tough, adaptable shrub that tolerates a range of conditions once established.
Species: Rosa canina
Variety: Dog Rose
Type: Deciduous shrub
Plant_Habit: Arching, scrambling shrub
Sun: Full sun to partial shade
Soil: Well-drained, fertile soil
Days_to_Harvest: Not applicable
Zones: 3-9
Germination: Cold stratification recommended; sow in autumn or stratify 8-12 weeks
Sowing: Surface sow and press lightly into soil
Spacing: 6-10 feet apart
Notes: Rose hips ripen in autumn

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0717/4648/6408/files/download_6b6b1ca6-bd65-4f5b-b492-56f79a1effe3.png?v=1791898052
