Hamamelis virginiana typically flowers in autumn, producing fragrant, spider-like yellow blooms on bare branches after most other plants have finished for the year, followed by attractive foliage that turns warm yellow in fall.

This shrub works well in woodland gardens, naturalized areas, mixed borders, and as a specimen plant where its seasonal interest can be appreciated up close. The blooms offer late forage for pollinators during mild spells, while the seed capsules and layered branching add winter texture. It prefers consistent moisture and tolerates partial shade, making it a useful understory choice for informal plantings.

Species: Hamamelis virginiana
Variety: Not applicable
Type: Deciduous shrub or small tree
Plant_Habit: Upright, spreading, multi-stemmed
Sun: Full sun to partial shade
Soil: Moist, well-drained, acidic to neutral loam
Days_to_Harvest: Not applicable
Zones: 3 to 8
Germination: Slow and irregular; cold stratification required
Sowing: Sow in moist medium, stratify cold, keep evenly moist
Spacing: 10 to 15 feet apart
Notes: Blooms on bare wood in autumn; provide space for mature spread

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0717/4648/6408/files/download_a8802148-d422-42ca-955b-7ab7d62ead4b.png?v=1791896445
https://www.natesgardensupply.com/products/5-seeds-witch-hazel-hamamelis-virginiana-hardy-flowering-shrub
