Native to western China, it develops into a striking specimen tree over time, making it a rewarding choice for gardeners who appreciate long-lived structural plants in the landscape.
Dragon Spruce works well as a focal point, windbreak, or grouped planting in larger gardens and conifer collections. Its conical silhouette and cold tolerance suit temperate landscapes, and it can also be grown as a container specimen when young. Growth is slow to moderate, eventually forming a tall, stately tree with pendulous cones appearing on mature specimens.
Species: Picea asperata
Type: Evergreen conifer
Plant_Habit: Upright, dense, pyramidal
Sun: Full sun to partial shade
Soil: Well-drained, loamy, slightly acidic
Zones: 5-8
Germination: Cold stratification recommended; surface sow, lightly press into soil, keep moist
Sowing: Sow indoors or in cold frame; patience required as germination can be slow and uneven
Spacing: 15-20 feet between trees
Notes: Slow-growing at first; prefers cool climates and consistent moisture

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0717/4648/6408/files/download_11d2a01d-a738-40ee-adaf-229782677419.png?v=1791896325
https://www.natesgardensupply.com/products/5-seeds-picea-asperata-dragon-spruce-evergreen-ornamental-tree
