This slow-growing ornamental perennial forms tidy clumps that spread gently over time, making it an excellent choice for edging, mass plantings, or as a bold accent among lighter-leaved plants.
This plant is primarily used for ornamental purposes, thriving in partial to full shade where its dark color stands out beautifully against green or silver foliage. It is also suitable for rock gardens, woodland settings, or as a low-maintenance ground cover under trees. Once established, it tolerates a range of conditions but prefers well-draining soil and consistent moisture. Perfect for adding year-round interest with its evergreen leaves and subtle summer blooms followed by dark berries.
Species: Ophiopogon planiscapus
Variety: 'Nigrescens'
Type: Ornamental Perennial
Plant Habit: Clumping, Spreading
Sun: Partial Shade to Full Shade
Soil: Moist, Well-Draining, Rich
Zones: 5-10
Germination: 2-4 Weeks
Sowing: Sow seeds on soil surface, light cover, keep moist and warm
Spacing: 6-12 Inches Apart
Notes: Slow Growing, Evergreen, Cold Hardy

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0717/4648/6408/files/download_5b109242-8db2-4fe4-a411-a12a445c5a3a.png?v=1791895452
https://www.natesgardensupply.com/products/5-seeds-ophiopogon-planiscapus-nigrescens-black-mondo-grass-ornamental-perennial-ground-cover
