It offers year-round structure in shade gardens and woodland plantings, with leathery leaves that remain attractive through winter. The pale green, purple-edged flowers appear in clusters from late winter into spring, providing interest when little else is blooming. Its architectural form and tolerance for dry shade make it a useful choice for borders, underplanting, and naturalized areas.
This hellebore works well in woodland gardens, shaded borders, and mixed perennial beds, where its evergreen foliage provides a steady backdrop for seasonal companions. It prefers cool, well-drained sites and, once established, tolerates periods of dryness better than many shade perennials. Seed germination can be slow and uneven, so patience is helpful; sowing fresh and allowing a cold period improves results. Plants are long-lived and generally low-maintenance once settled.
Species: Helleborus foetidus
Type: Evergreen perennial
Plant_Habit: Clump-forming, upright
Sun: Partial shade to full shade
Soil: Well-drained, humus-rich
Zones: 5-9
Germination: Slow and irregular; cold stratification beneficial
Sowing: Surface sow, lightly cover, keep moist
Spacing: 18-24 inches
Notes: Tolerates dry shade once established

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0717/4648/6408/files/download_75a52c86-49d5-4a7c-ab78-bbe1fcb76db2.png?v=1791896504
https://www.natesgardensupply.com/products/5-seeds-helleborus-foetidus-stinking-hellebore-evergreen-perennial-shade-garden
