This hardy variety produces abundant clusters of flavorful berries on a fast-growing, ornamental vine, making it a standout addition to any garden or patio container. The 'Issai' kiwi is particularly noted for its ability to set fruit without a pollenizer, offering a dependable and productive yield of sweet, aromatic fruit.
This deciduous vine is well-suited for growing over trellises, arbors, or fences, and can also be managed in large pots on a sunny balcony. The smooth, grape-like fruits are perfect for fresh eating, adding to fruit salads, making jams or jellies, and are a favorite for baking into desserts. The vine exhibits strong twining growth and benefits from annual pruning to maintain shape and encourage fruiting on one-year-old wood. Its attractive foliage provides excellent ornamental screening during the growing season.
Species: Actinidia arguta
Variety: Issai
Type: Deciduous fruiting vine
Plant_Habit: Twining climber
Sun: Full sun to partial shade
Soil: Well-drained, moist, fertile loam
Days_to_Harvest: 90-120 (after flowering)
Zones: 5-9
Germination: Cold stratification required; sow indoors 8-10 weeks before last frost, or direct sow after stratification
Sowing: Plant seeds 1/4 inch deep in seed starting mix; maintain consistent moisture and temperatures around 68-75°F
Spacing: Plant vines 8-10 feet apart; provide sturdy support structure
Notes: Fruiting typically begins in 2-3 years after planting; requires winter chill for optimal flowering

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0717/4648/6408/files/download_905e1324-6395-430d-ab61-7650b7fe3155.png?v=1791895639
