This heirloom selection is a popular choice for naturalistic landscapes, trellises, fences, and arbors where its seasonal color and form can be appreciated.

The vine grows quickly once established and works well as a screen or backdrop planting along structures. Its late-season fruit clusters add visual interest to dormant-season gardens, and the foliage turns a soft yellow in autumn. Plant in a site with room to climb and consistent moisture. Note: this species is dioecious, meaning both male and female plants are typically needed for fruit production.
Species: Celastrus scandens
Type: Perennial woody vine
Plant_Habit: Climbing, twining
Sun: Full sun to partial shade
Soil: Well-drained, medium moisture
Zones: 3-9
Germination: Cold stratification recommended
Sowing: Surface sow, press lightly
Spacing: 36-60 inches
Notes: Dioecious; plant multiple for fruit set

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0717/4648/6408/files/il_fullxfull.7854565680_c6of_f0ab740c-742f-4285-9b67-53babe84842e.jpg?v=1791898788
https://www.natesgardensupply.com/products/30-american-bittersweet-seeds-celastrus-scandens-native-vine-ornamental-climbing-plant
