This heirloom selection brings a naturalistic, meadow-style look to beds, borders, and wildflower plantings and is well suited to pollinator-friendly and low-water landscapes.
The flowers rise on slender stems above finely cut foliage, blooming through summer and into early fall. The nectar-rich blooms draw bees and butterflies, and the long-lasting seed heads add winter interest and food for birds. Use Mexican Hat in prairie restorations, cottage gardens, rock gardens, and mixed perennial borders, or as a cut flower. It tolerates heat, wind, and poor soils once established and self-sows readily in suitable conditions.
Species: Ratibida columnifera
Type: Herbaceous perennial (often grown as a short-lived perennial or biennial)
Plant_Habit: Upright, clump-forming
Sun: Full sun
Soil: Well-drained, sandy to loamy; tolerates poor and dry soils
Days_to_Harvest: Not applicable
Zones: 3-9
Germination: 14-30 days at 65-75F; light aids germination
Sowing: Surface sow, press into soil; do not bury deeply
Spacing: 12-18 inches
Notes: Drought tolerant; deadhead to prolong bloom or leave seed heads for birds

https://www.natesgardensupply.com/products/250-mexican-hat-ratibida-columnifera-seeds-heirloom-prairie-wildflower
