It forms loose colonies through underground runners, creating a naturalized look in meadows, hedgerows, and mixed borders, and its open flowers draw bees and other pollinators through the season.
In the landscape it works well as a groundcover-like shrub, in native plantings, pollinator gardens, and informal hedges, with blooms appearing in late spring to early summer followed by small red rose hips in autumn. Plants spread gradually by suckers to fill an area over time. Grow in full sun for the heaviest flowering, though light shade is tolerated.
Species: Rosa carolina
Variety: Pasture Rose
Type: Perennial shrub rose
Plant_Habit: Low, spreading, colony-forming
Sun: Full sun to partial shade
Soil: Well-drained, average to dry, tolerates poor soils
Days_to_Harvest: Not applicable
Zones: 4-9
Germination: Cold stratification improves results; expect 30-60+ days with variable, slow germination
Sowing: Surface sow and press into soil; do not bury deeply
Spacing: 24-36 inches between plants
Notes: Blooms on old and new wood; light pruning encourages vigor; hips persist into winter

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0717/4648/6408/files/il_fullxfull.7942620517_3ntc_0fb2efcf-029d-40a2-86e6-90617d71be48.jpg?v=1791899663
https://www.natesgardensupply.com/products/15-seeds-pasture-rose-rosa-carolina-native-wildflower-shrub
