Native to the southeastern United States, it brings a bold vertical accent to meadows, cottage borders, and pollinator gardens, where its vivid color stands out beautifully against softer pastel plantings.

This easy-to-grow wildflower is a favorite for naturalized areas, wildflower meadows, and back-of-border plantings, where its airy structure adds height and movement. The bright scarlet flowers appear in summer, typically in the second year from seed, and the plant readily self-sows once established, returning year after year in suitable conditions. It pairs well with other sun-loving wildflowers and grasses and makes an excellent cut flower. Allow spent blooms to mature if you wish to encourage reseeding.
Species: Ipomopsis rubra
Variety: Standing Cypress
Type: Biennial wildflower
Plant Habit: Upright, slender flowering spikes
Sun: Full sun
Soil: Well-drained, sandy to loamy soil
Days to Harvest: Not applicable
Zones: 5 to 9
Germination: 14 to 30 days at 65 to 70F
Sowing: Surface sow, lightly press seed into soil, do not bury deeply
Spacing: 12 to 18 inches apart
Notes: Blooms typically in the second year; allow seed heads to mature for self-sowing

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0717/4648/6408/files/il_fullxfull.7883330310_axlu_54fb96ca-6728-47cb-8387-d0903471f28c.jpg?v=1791899720
https://www.natesgardensupply.com/products/100-seeds-standing-cypress-ipomopsis-rubra-red-hummingbird-wildflower
