In spring, the tree produces large, white, petal-like bracts that surround small greenish flower clusters, creating a striking display. The green leaves turn reddish-purple in autumn, and bright red berries often appear after flowering, adding seasonal interest to the landscape. This northern strain is adapted to cooler climates and is a popular choice for home landscapes and native gardens.
White Flowering Dogwood works well as a specimen tree, in mixed borders, or in woodland gardens. It can be used in ornamental plantings where its layered branching and seasonal color are desired. The tree typically grows at a moderate pace and prefers partial shade, especially in hotter regions, with moist, well-drained, acidic soil. It is an understory species in its native range and benefits from protection from harsh afternoon sun and drying winds. Fresh seed benefits from cold stratification to support germination.
Species: Cornus florida
Variety: Northern
Type: Deciduous flowering tree
Plant_Habit: Upright, spreading, rounded canopy
Sun: Partial shade to full sun
Soil: Moist, well-drained, acidic
Days_to_Harvest: Not applicable
Zones: 5-9
Germination: 60-90 days after cold stratification
Sowing: Sow 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep
Spacing: 15-20 feet apart
Notes: Northern strain; cold stratification recommended for best germination

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0717/4648/6408/files/download_454b38fe-7ca9-415b-a08e-e7543b0bf974.png?v=1791898051
https://www.natesgardensupply.com/products/10-seeds-white-flowering-dogwood-cornus-florida-northern-hardy-ornamental-tree
