Growing tall and upright, it adds striking vertical color to borders, meadows, and pollinator-friendly landscapes when much of the garden has finished flowering. September Ruby is a well-regarded cultivar prized for its rich color and robust garden performance, making it a rewarding choice for both new and experienced growers.
This aster is primarily grown as an ornamental for mixed borders, wildflower plantings, and cut flower arrangements, where its long-lasting blooms provide late-season interest. The flowers attract a wide range of pollinators, and the plants form clumping, upright habits that naturalize well in suitable conditions. It performs best in full sun with consistent moisture and well-draining soil, and it can be divided every few years to maintain vigor.
Species: Aster novae-angliae
Variety: September Ruby
Type: Herbaceous perennial
Plant_Habit: Upright, clumping
Sun: Full sun to part shade
Soil: Moist, well-draining, fertile
Days_to_Harvest: Not applicable
Zones: 3-8
Germination: 14-30 days at 65-70F, surface sow and lightly press seed
Sowing: Start indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost or direct sow after frost
Spacing: 18-24 inches
Notes: Cold stratification for 4-6 weeks can improve germination

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0717/4648/6408/files/download_907aea45-2270-4a4f-8164-d87c0769cddd.png?v=1791896498
https://www.natesgardensupply.com/products/10-seeds-new-england-aster-september-ruby-perennial-flower
