This striking desert species features compact, cylindrical stems with dense, comb-like spines that create a decorative lattice pattern, and it is admired for its showy, fragrant pink to purple flowers that bloom in late spring or early summer. A resilient and slow-growing choice for cactus enthusiasts, it adds an architectural, sculptural touch to rock gardens, container displays, or arid landscape beds.
These seeds are ideal for gardeners interested in cultivating a distinctive, ornamental cactus from the ground up. Grow it as a low-maintenance container specimen on a sunny windowsill, patio, or greenhouse, or plant it outdoors in well-draining, gravelly soil within suitable temperate zones. Once established, this cactus forms attractive clusters over time and provides seasonal color with its large, daisy-like blooms. Seeds can be direct-planted or started indoors under controlled conditions, and patience is key, as germination and early growth proceed gradually.
Species: Echinocereus reichenbachii var. baileyi
Variety: Bailey’s hedgehog cactus
Type: Perennial cactus seed
Plant Habit: Clumping, globose to cylindrical stems
Sun: Full sun to partial shade
Soil: Well-draining, sandy or gritty mix
Days to Harvest: Not applicable
Zones: 5-10
Germination: 14-60 days, often requiring warmth and light
Sowing: Surface sow on moist, sterile medium; keep lightly covered or uncovered
Spacing: 12-18 cm (5-7 in) between plants
Notes: Slow-growing; avoid overwatering; seeds benefit from gentle stratification if no germination occurs

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0717/4648/6408/files/download_6df2e357-59b8-41bc-9b10-2fe266e134bb.png?v=1791895395
https://www.natesgardensupply.com/products/10-seeds-echinocereus-reichenbachii-var-baileyi-hedgehog-cactus
