This purple-flowering selection produces abundant single blooms with prominent stamens from midsummer into early fall, bringing dependable color when many other shrubs have finished flowering. It makes a striking accent, informal hedge, or mixed-border specimen and adapts well to a range of garden settings.

Althea is a low-maintenance, vigorous grower that performs best in full sun and tolerates heat and urban conditions once established. Its late-season flowers are attractive to pollinators, and the shrub can be trained as a small tree or kept compact with light annual pruning in late winter or early spring. Bare root starter plants should be planted promptly on arrival, kept evenly moist during establishment, and mulched to conserve moisture. Blooms appear on new growth, so pruning timing supports reliable flowering the following season.
Species: Hibiscus syriacus
Variety: Purple
Type: Deciduous flowering shrub
Plant_Habit: Upright, vase-shaped, branching
Sun: Full sun to partial shade
Soil: Well-drained, average fertility
Days_to_Harvest: Not applicable
Zones: 5-9
Germination: Not applicable
Sowing: Not applicable
Spacing: 4-6 feet apart
Notes: Blooms on new growth; prune in late winter or early spring

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0717/4648/6408/files/download_88a0bad1-beea-4b9b-96cf-2277a473eb98.png?v=1791897416
https://www.natesgardensupply.com/products/1-live-plant-althea-hibiscus-rose-of-sharon-purple-starter-bare-root-hardy-shrub
